Pax Animi

What is peace? Is it the absence of events and circumstances that robs the calmness of our mind? Is it being free from the bondage of adulting? Is it the freedom or liberation from our responsibilities and duties in the daily grind of life-being a father and a husband, mother and a wife, student, activist, politician, laborer, driver, pastor etc.? Why Bother?

That is the question that always beg.  Much of life isn’t just the lack of hard work and perseverance.  It’s more of someone who cares about you, the things that you do.  No matter the amount of output and effort you put out, why bother if no one cares?  What’s the whole point?  It’s like punching against the wind, it’s trifling. Subsequently, I realized that when I was married I stop fighting for it not just because of the lack of love and devotion but rather no one cares.  If there’s no one that cares, then what is the purpose?  Then I look back how this kind of attitude have been prevalent from  different areas of my life. I could clamor for this and that, but until I don’t change that particular behavior those things that I dream of will never come to fruition .  They are many times I wanted to give up blogging or writing.  Writing could be lonely at times.  However, I have to remind myself why I do such things, I have to remind myself that my story matters, so is yours. I have to remind myself the encouragement and hope I have given to my readers, how their lives were changed. Whatever you do in life matters, even if you look at it as mundane.  It’s just you couldn’t see the bigger picture.  You and I are part of a scene where it’s relevant for […]

Unworthy

During the course of my marriage I was a lukewarm Christian. After such a tumultuous (for the most part) relationship with my former spouse I broke down, they were numerous times at night after work that all I wanted is to drive as far I can be, instead of heading north towards home, all I wanted is to drive south, […]

Dejected? Trust.

I was on the phone recently talking to a close family friend.  It was about almost two hours of conversation.  Lately, this past few weeks I’ve been feeling down.  Hope, believe, expecting and then nothing.  Hope, believe, expecting, wait..there’s something, oh it’s nothing.  Hope, believe, expecting, wait.. ah there it is..almost had it, the carrot on the stick got pulled […]

Don’t Worry, Pray

The title reminds me of the song by Bobby McFerrin, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.”  Let’s face it, it’s hard to be happy when you’re worrying.  The flood of negative emotions and thoughts leave you dry and empty.  Unable to concentrate on the task at hand.  It’s like our minds have conspired against us, only to find out later that such […]

Slippery Slope

Nothing is more painful than someone breaking your heart.  Especially if you’ve been together for so  many years that you wouldn’t even think that something stomach crunching would happen.  You would never dreamed  the idea of betrayal, separation and divorce.  Not once that it ever crossed your mind.  They were no red flags, no signs.  It’s like a flash of […]

Victory by Defeat

The passage above are the words spoken by the prophet Jeremiah to King Zedekiah asking him to submit to the authority of Babylonians due to Israel’s recalcitrance. This is how I usually feel when I speak God’s truth.  It’s not a comfortable position to be.  To ask for your surrender to God’s will by obeying Him.  Still, the Bible is replete with surrender after surrender in submission to God.  From Joseph, a victim of flagrant injustice, locked away forgotten in a dingy cell.  David, hunted down by Saul’s elite guard.  Running away like a rabbit hiding in caves and even he had the chanced and justification to end Saul’s life he refuse to do it because God didn’t command him to. Finally, there it was the crucifixion of God’s only Son.  Hanging on the cross, defeated by the Roman empire, the principalities and the rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness in high places (Ephesians 6:12).  Blood, sweat and tears.  Gasping for breath like a goldfish pluck out of its bowl.    In spite of the hurt, the darkness that engulf them, those feeling of being forsaken, doors slamming on your face and windows closing just when you’re hands had a grasp on them.  They’ve learned to trust and obey. Imagine the bewildered face of the one who comes to steal, seek and destroy (John 10:10).  His jaw dropped.  Scratching his head.  He thought he’d won, “Victory at last,”  he says.  It […]

Delayed and Annoyed

A lot of people are traveling to take advantage of the summer as it comes to its end.  Whether by train, driving, or flying nothing is annoying than hearing the news that your flight is delayed, more so when you get the message at the last-minute.  That is exactly what happened to us a few days ago.  We were driving […]
